‘Ekonomichna Pravda’ media outlet has presented analytical article, which analyzes the causes of the Ukraine’s failure in the ease of Doing Business index. In particular, the text drew attention to the getting electricity problem, which is tackled by CASE Ukraine experts
within the framework of USAID Leadership in Economic Governance Program.… There are many opportunities for dramatic growth in the ranking now. For example, getting electricity is an Achilles’ heel for investments in Ukraine. Last year it grew by the statistical error’s rate. This year – as well. More than a year ago USAID Leadership in Economic Governance experts have analyzed this problem and identified key steps to simplifying access to the power networks for investors who want to invest money in new businesses in Ukraine.
‘Reducing the procedures` quantity to three ones: application, payment, connection, as well as limiting maximum connection period — the energy specialists have agreed for 120 days in the most difficult cases — will radically change Ukraine’s place in the Doing Business ranking. In particular, the countries` position could rise to 39th from the 185th place in getting electricity rating. The Ukraine’s overall rating may improve by at least 35 positions and would reach 61th place – compared to the current 96th position. These calculations are based on Doing Business ranking simulator,’ – Dmytro Boyarchuk, CEO of CASE Ukraine, wrote on the eve of last year’s ranking. As it seems, nothing changed during a year.
