The International Atlas Network, which promotes freedom and market economy worldwide, invited The Price of the State to share its experience in economic education at the European Freedom Congress, which took place on May 22–23 in Brussels.
Yevhen Shulga, Director of Development at CASE Ukraine, spoke at one of the panel discussions about how our approach to communicating complex economic topics to readers and viewers has changed over more than ten years of work. “Few people feel the difference between 100 million and 101 million hryvnia. Few people understand the difference between 3% and 4% GDP growth. Therefore, our approach from the very beginning was to transform these obscure figures into something familiar to everyone: for example, to explain how much each of us pays monthly for police services or how much faster we will achieve Poland’s prosperity if we add Poland’s% to annual GDP growth,” Yevhen said during his speec”.
We started as a Facebook group, organized educational tours in 15 major cities of Ukraine, showed bags of money, and sent out “bills from the state” by mail to show the amount of taxes each of us pays for “free public services.” And today, we are creating full-length documentaries on YouTube about how market solutions help countries overcome poverty and crises.
We thank Atlas Network for the recognition and invitation to share the Ukrainian experience with the international community.
